10 Uses for Witch Hazel

Witch Hazel is one of my favorite beauty secrets.(never knew it was a plant) If you watched my skin care video than you already know I swear by the stuff. I use it mostly at night because I am too lazy to actually wash my face , but it is so so so important to cleanse your face of all the make-up dirt and oil before you go to bed. Witch hazel works so well on my face, it got me to thinking, what else is it good for? So I hit the internet to find some other common uses for this miracle product. So here’s a list of a few of its uses:

1. A facial astringent. It helps shrink pores.
2. It’s an anti inflammatory, which means it helps reduce puffy eyes.
3. Helps soothe razor burn and sunburn
4. Helps with bug bites by soothing the itching, bleeding and ease the pain
5. Helps with varicose veins
6. Heals bruises
7. Soothes diaper rash
8. Treats dry skin, by locking in moisture
9. Reduces hemorrhoids
10. Helps soothe poison ivy

Those are just a few of the things witch hazel can do, but as with anything, do your own research to see if it is right for you.

Atlanta Housewives

First and foremost I would like to apologize for my poor taste in television, but since you are on my blog I figure you may have similar taste. So to the good part! I love LOVE Kandi! She is my new fav. She has an actual personality, where as the other ladies are obviously in TV mode and fake and annoying. Khandi is real and relatable and she can sing! When she performs at the end she is wearing this beautiful purple eye shadow, and I’m no good with make-up yet, but I will try to re create it one day. Anyway Love her.

Kim looks 10x better without all that make-up but that’s neither here nor there. The shoes she wore to her and Kandi’s birthday party were to die! I can’t find a picture but I will be on top of that, and of course I will be on a more budget friendly version as well. Her and Big Poppa are also engaged and that ring is huge! Huge isn’t even the word, but wow if something ever happened to me and Caleb, I’m definitely going to marry for money.

That was basically all that happened. Sharee went to New York to check on her samples, but whatever. The line looks decent, but they didn’t show much so I will reserve my judgment for another episode. The only other exciting thing that happened was was they showed a clip of the upcoming Orange County season. I will probably miss it, but if that’s you thing it starts Thursday, November 5th.

Fall Fashion 101...Tunics

I love fall. It’s my favorite time for fashion. I love sweaters and boots and light jackets. I love fall colors and I love the general cozy feeling I get every year the weather changes. Anyway this all brings me back to my list of fall must haves. Number 2 on that list is the tunic/printed dress.

Now I know this isn’t a new trend, but I never really liked it until now. I can’t even remember why I hated them so much, but this year they seem to be all I can think about. When you are talking about colorful tunic dresses, one name is bound to come up sooner or later and that name is Anna Sui.

She has mastered the art of this playful and flirty style and luckily for us budget beauties she currently has a line in Target.
Anna Sui for target has taken the same ideas of her ready to wear line and made it more accessible for woman like us. Here is some of what the line looks like

Very close right. Anyway these are just the styles that I will be rocking this fall. I love fashion, but I wear what I like, not what magazine editors tell me to like. Sometimes it’s the same and sometimes it’s different but that’s the beauty of fashion everyone should have their own voice.

Oh I almost forgot, here's a pic of the designer

How to get Healthy Hair, pt 2

Ok so now you have your regiment and your products, you need a protective style. Protective styles are low/no manipulation hair styles that keep ends tucked away or up off of you clothing. Since the ends of the hair are the oldest and weakest part they should be treated like silk. Keeping your ends happy and healthy is the best way to retain length. Having a protective style is a key component in starting your hair journey. Now of course there are many low manipulation styles you can wear with your hair down, but I would advise most beginners to stick with the protective styles at least until your hair is healthier, and then you can try as many roller sets and Bantu knots and braid outs as you like.

Some of the most common examples of protective styles are buns, pony tails, wigs, sew-ins and braids. Just remember with the latter you still have to care for your real hair underneath. My protective style of choice are wigs. I love wigs because you get the look of freshly relaxed and curled/flat ironed hair without actually having to use heat. I also love wigs because you can get them in so many different styles and colors and textures. I usually keep my hair under my wigs braided in 2 French braids, I can’t cornrow to save my life. Each night I take the braids down and moisturize with HE none of your Frizzness(I don’t think they make it anymore) and seal with my oil mix. In the morning I spritz it with my aloe vera, rosewater, glycerin, neem oil spray and put my wig cap on and my wig and go.

If you are not comfortable with wigs you can also go the sew-in/braids route. The one thing I want to stress with that is make sure you keep your hair under moisturized and your scalp clean! One of the biggest reasons I prefer wigs is that I’m not sure that I can keep my hair moisturized under the sew-in well enough o not have any setbacks but a lot of woman do it every day so it is possible. Just do your research.

Then there is of course the bun. This is probably the easiest and most common protective style, but for a lot of us women with shorter hair buns are not always the easiest or cutest styles for us. For that I would suggest trying a Phony Pony or a clip on bun. I also found this method on youtube. Check it out. This woman has some amazing videos so check here channel as well:

If you already have long hair, or if you want to spice up a boring bun, check out this video. It is a great Bun tutorial, and she has many more on her page. She has great tips to jazz up plain buns.

About Me

Happy October everyone!! I love the beginning of the month. It is like a new start. You get another chance to do it right. I always try to set little goals for myself at the beginning of each month kind of like mini new year’s resolutions. I hate that you make resolutions at the beginning of the year and by April you forget all about them. So now since I have a blog I figured I would share them with you.

This month is full of new beginnings for me already. I recently move to Northern Virginia, the Metro DC area and I am starting a new job Monday. As you know, I am not in school right now and I am saving to go back, but until then my plan is to work work work. I currently work at Starbucks in a Target, and Monday I start at Charlotte Russe. I am so pumped because we get 40% off. 40%! I would work there for that alone lol. So I will definitely keep you updated on my purchases. I just hope I can keep them to a minimum. So with that being said one of my goals for this month are to not go to crazy spending unnecessary money.

Another one of my goals are to stay consistent with my hair care. It has been easy so far, because I have only been working part time at Target so I have a lot of down time, but when I start working at Charlotte I will probably have to make time to do my hair. My last goal is of course is to continue to blog every day. That’s it for this month. Of course I will keep you updated.
